Fullmetal Alchemist - (R) - "Terminology"
Title: Terminology
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Pairing: Ed/Al
Rating: R
Prompt: 023 - Lovers
Summary: Is cross-categorizing possible when it comes to relationships?
Notes: I guess this could come after the movie... It's a bit post-coital, so avoid if you're sensitive to that.

It was a little cold, he realized, as he hesitantly pressed one palm against his stomach. The sweat was drying on his skin, and it made him feel sticky and tarnished. His hair was sticking out in every direction, he was sure of it, and though the sheets felt damp against his legs, his throat found itself unspeakably parched. A weight beside him shifted, and he looked left into golden eyes.

“So? How you feeling?”

Al pressed his heels into the bed slightly and tested shifting his hips around. He winced. “Okay, I guess.”

There was a deep frown stretching Ed’s mouth now, and he reached out his flesh hand to brush errant wisps of hair away from his brother’s face. “Did I hurt you?”

“No, it’s not that. It’s just…” Al sighed and looked away from those gemstones of eyes. “Brother… are you… are we…?”

Ed pushed himself up to rest on one elbow, and leaned closer to his companion. There was something dark painting his face, pain maybe, or regret? Al shouldn’t look that way, he said to himself with a growing sense of horror, and he couldn’t stop the fingertips that sought the smooth curve of his brother’s cheek, reassuring him that he was still there, still flesh, still real. It stung more than a little when Al flinched away from his touch.

“Al, what’s wrong?”

“I… are we… lovers?” The sounds felt worse rolling off his tongue than he’d expected them to. “Now? Is that… the word…?”

Ed blinked a few times, and his stomach balled up just a nanometer tighter. “Well… yeah. Yeah, I guess we are.”

“Oh.” The breaths came just a bit faster, and his chest started to throb.

“Al? Is that... are you okay?”

“Do I have to call you Ed now? Or Edward?”

And suddenly it all made sense, and Ed moved forward like water to encircle and embrace his brother. “No, you don’t. You can call me whatever you want.”

Al turned brave eyes up to him, and the question didn’t need to be uttered to be heard.

“We’re still brothers, Al. We’re more than brothers, sure, but we’re still brothers underneath that.”

He had answered correctly, Ed concluded, as soft lips pressed against his in a rush.
